Black Coffee Keeps the Talk Straight and Music Exclusive on New Beats 1 Radio Show

You know that sleepy 2 p.m. feeling? Right after lunch, you get a bit sluggish, and you reach for your energy drink of choice? No one needs to drink all those chemicals. Why don't you try a little Black Coffee?

The celebrated South African DJ and producer is getting his own Apple's Beats 1 Radio Show. It's a Friday afternoon thing, coming in hot and strong every two weeks, featuring Black Coffee and his best friends Mario playing big house stompers from around the world. The show, simply called Black Coffee, will bring exclusive remixes, forthcoming album tracks, unreleased collabs, plus lots of candid talk about life on the road and in the streets.

The first two-hour episode airs Friday, July 28, at 3 pm EST/12 pm PST, with an encore Saturday, July 29, at 3 am EST / 12 am PST. It's already been recorded, and includes an exclusive track with Swizz Beats and Burna Boy, demo remixes of Usher's “Tell Me,” and a guest mix from fellow South African DJ and producer Da Capo.

"It’s been amazing,” Black Coffee says. “Such a pleasure for me to have such a platform to share the music. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Just to show people my music world and what my interests are, the other things I do. I’m gonna bring more stuff like, even classical music, stuff I listen to that inspires what I do every single day. Thanks for lending us an ear.”

The Beats 1 show will introduce fans to a deeper side of the man. He'll walk listeners down a musical path of his own making, creating connections between sounds and eras that have influenced him along his own evolution.

“As much as I’ve been a house music producer, I listen to stuff that’s totally different,” he says. “I think what talks to me most is soul music, and this is what I try and bring to house. Hence, the music I work on there’s always a story and a structure, a melody. I try by all means to always have vocals on the song. For me it’s very important what they’re saying. Music is such a powerful tool if we can use that to make people feel amazing, that’s what I’d like to do. I listen to anything from Lionel Richie to Michael Jackson this is what I try to bring into house music. That kind of vibe. I refuse to loop vocals and be very electronic when it comes to house music. I want a story, I want layers. I want color.

“I wanted to live in people’s homes,” he continues. “We spend two nights in the club, a Friday and a Saturday, the rest of the week we still want to listen to music. I want to be in people’s living rooms, in their cars when they’re driving to work.”

Black Coffee will also discuss his residency at Hï Ibiza, the struggle to keep his family out of fame's harsh spotlight, insights into his works in progress, and more.

Keep an eye out for the show premiere Friday, July 28, at 3 pm EST / 12 pm PST, and tune in via Beats 1
