Linkin Park light up Australia’s albums chart this week with three LPs in the top five and nine in the top 50 as fans tune into the nu metal band’s catalog following the death of its frontman, Chester Bennington, on July 20.
The most popular is Linkin Park’s five-times platinum certified 2000 hit Hybrid Theory (Warner Music), which returns to No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart, its original peak position. The rockers also re-enter the albums survey with One More Light (No. 4), Meteora (No. 5), Minutes To Midnight (No. 7), Collision Course with Jay-Z (No. 28), The Hunting Party (No. 38), Living Things (No. 40), A Thousand Suns (No. 47) and Studio Collection (No. 49).
It’s a similar tale over on the ARIA Singles Chart, where six songs re-enter the top 50, led by
“In The End” at No. 10.
With her fifth album Lust For Life (Interscope/Universal), Lana Del Rey scoops her fourth No. 1 on the ARIA albums tally. The set starts at the summit, which is exactly where he previous set, 2015’s Honeymoon, began its chart journey.
Ed Sheeran’s juggernaut Divide (Warner Music) dips 1-3, as Sydney singer Celia Pavey makes her first impression on the national albums chart under the Vera Blue moniker with Perennial (Island/Universal), which starts at No. 6. The new release comes four years after the one-time Voice Australia contestant’s debut album This Music hit No. 14. She adopted her new stage name in 2015.
Also cracking the top 10 on debut is Tyler, The Creator’s fourth solo set Flower Boy (Columbia/Sony), new at No. 8, while Dr. G Yunupingu’s breakthrough 2008 album Gurrumul (Skinnyfish Music/MGM) returns to the top 40 following the indigenous Australian artist’s untimely death on July 25. The award-winning album re-enters at No. 27.
On the ARIA Singles Chart, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee lock-up an 11th consecutive week at No. 1 with “Despacito” (Republic/Universal), the newly-crowned most streamed song of all time. The track, which features Justin Bieber,is quadruple-platinum certified Down Under.
