The party scene in Amsterdam is about to quiet down – literally.
The online publication Techno Moves reports that the Dutch City Council passed a new sound ordinance that commands large-scale outdoor events, such as music festivals, to turn the volume down from 100 decibels to 85 when going down near residential areas.
The ordinance stipulates that outdoor festivals may exceed this decibel range three days out of the year. An exception is made for more than 20 popular areas, including Zuidas, Museum Square, and a new event center in Westpoort.
Promoters are also required to conduct acoustic research before and during events, in the hopes of finding ways to reduce residential inconvenience. The announcement comes as fans and industry members plan trips to the famed city around the annual Amsterdam Dance Event. Read the full report via Techno Moves.
