LCD Soundsystem Launches Dance Tonite VR Experience

LCD Soundsystem recently announced the release of its fourth studio albumAmerican Dream, due in September, and now the New York band has just launched its first VR experience to coincide with the album's release.

The video, titled "Dance Tonite," shows a simulated party as fans dance along to "American Dream." The virtual reality was developed by Google, who had real fans dance across multiple rooms and then transformed the participants into cylinders, cones and other shapes for the video.

The funky 1980s melody of "American Dream" matches perfectly with the neon colors that make up the Google-created world that can be viewed on the 'Dance Tonite' website. On the site, viewers can click on specific dancers to see from their point of view. But those with their own VR headsets can view the dance party as if it's happening right in their own house.

In a making-of video, the band explains the process of creating a VR experience for the album. "I really enjoyed it," LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy says. "I didn't expect to enjoy it. I thought it wasn't for me, but it was for me. It's really neat."
