Apple to Hold iPhone Launch Event on Sept. 12: Reports

Apple is set to announce a new lineup of iPhones, plus other tech updates, including a new watch and further details on its forthcoming HomePod speaker, at a special event scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12, according to reports.

Being hailed as Apple's "most important keynote in a few years," the event is expected to focus on the unveiling of the iPhone 8, which if the Apple blogosphere is right, will feature an edge-to-edge curved screen, facial recognition technology, wireless charging, an updated camera and price tag reaching $1,000. Also expected to be announced are updated versions of its iPhone 7 and 7 Plus lines.

According to the Apple rumor mill, pre-orders for the iPhone 8 could begin three days after the event, which will be held in the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple's new futuristic headquarters, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The Sept. 12 event will also unveil a new Apple Watch, a new and more powerful Apple TV box, and the company is expected to offer more details about its HomePod speakers.

In other Apple news, CEO Tim Cook recently received $89 million in stock as part of a payout package stemming from his move to the top spot following Jobs' resignation in 2011. Apple set aside roughly half of the money for tax purposes, and Cook sold off the remaining shares, making him about $43 million richer. Back in 2015, Cook said he plans on giving away most of his wealth to charity.
