Shawn Mendes Illuminate World Tour Has Earned $32 Million (and Counting)

Shawn Mendes has earned a slot on Billboard’s weekly ranking of top-grossing Hot Tours (see list below) with the final two dates reported from the North American leg of his ongoing world tour. With treks completed in both Europe and North America, the Canadian pop star has topped $32 million in ticket sales from 609,354 sold seats at 50 performances so far.

Mendes is set to resume the tour next month beginning in Brazil with an appearance on the second day of the Rock in Rio Festival on Sept. 16. In November the Illuminate Tour will head Down Under for a five-city sweep through Australia and New Zealand before the tour’s final stand in four Asian markets in December. The Tokyo International Forum is the site for the final concert on Dec. 18.

The five-continent trek in support of his September 2016 release Illuminate began in Scotland at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, the first of 20 arenas booked during the tour’s opening European leg that continued through early June. Among the highlights of the opening jaunt was the only two-show engagement during the run at London’s O2 Arena. Concerts on June 1 and 2, the final shows during the European leg, produced £1.1 million in sold ticket revenue with almost 32,000 fans in attendance.

The North American stretch launched the following month on July 6 at the Moda Center in Portland. With a string of 29 concerts set in 28 cities, The Illuminate Tour’s second leg ran until Aug. 23, wrapping with a sold out performance at Boston’s TD Garden. The Air Canada Centre in Toronto was the only venue during the run to host the tour for more than one night. Mendes performed at the arena in his home city on Aug. 11 and 12, grossing $2 million from a total of 27,972 sold tickets.

The top box office counts among the venues with single performances was also from a Canadian market. Montreal’s Bell Centre logged an attendance count of 15,427 for a sold out concert on Aug. 14 with earned revenue topping $1.2 million.
