Troye Sivan, Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea Join Joel Edgertons Boy Erased

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea and writer-director Xavier Dolan are the latest to join Joel Edgerton's gay conversion drama Boy Erased.

Tony winner Cherry Jones and artist Troye Sivan are also joining the cast, which will be led by Manchester by the Sea's Lucas Hedges, who will star as the son of a Baptist minister that is outed by his parents (played by Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) and forced into conversion therapy.

Emily Hinkler, Jesse LaTourette, David Joseph Craig, Théodore Pellerin and Britton Sear round out the cast for Boy Erased, which is based on the book Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family by Garrard Conley, who will act as a consultant on the film.

Edgerton, who made his directorial debut in 2015 with The Gift, will produce Boy Erased with Anonymous Content’s Kerry Kohansky-Roberts and Steve Golin. Executive producing the film are Rebecca Yeldham, Ann Ruark, and Anonymous Content’s Kim Hodgert and Tony Lipp.

Flea was last seen in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver and played himself in Terrence Malick's Song to Song. Dolan is best known as the writer-director of French-language films like Mommy and I Killed My Mother; his English-language debut, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, out next year, stars Jessica Chastain. Jones was last seen in Whisky Tango Foxtrot and Amazon's Transparent, while Sivan is best known for his music but did appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Focus Features will distribute Boy Erased.
