Cardi Bs Bodak Yellow Hits No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Cardi B checks off another box in her breakthrough year as her smash “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” climbs 2-1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songschart (dated Sept. 16). The move gives the Bronx native her first leader on the list.

The song’s ascent corresponds with gains in streaming, as it rises 1 percent to 42.3 million U.S. streams for the week ending Aug. 31, according to Nielsen Music and holds at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs. The tune also grows at radio, lifting 11 percent to 55 million in audience for the week ending Sept. 3, which prompts a 20-17 move on the all-format Radio Songs chart. It declines, however, 4 percent in downloads in the week ending Aug. 31, but remains at No. 2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales

“Bodak” also marks the first song by a woman billed in a leading role to lead Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in all of 2017. Only one other woman, Rihanna, has appeared on a chart-topping tune this year, in a featured role on DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts,” which led for the seven weeks immediately preceding “Bodak.” Rihanna also boasts the last No. 1 by a leading woman before Cardi B, when her “Needed Me” topped the Sept. 24 and Oct. 1-dated charts last year.

Furthermore, as “Bodak” is Cardi B’s first charting hit, the rapper is the first lead act to reach the summit with her debut entry since D.R.A.M., whose “Broccoli,” featuring Lil Yachty, reigned for one week last October.

Uzi’s ‘Rage 2’ is No. 1: As Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs welcomes a new champ, so too does the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, with Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv is Rage 2debuting at No. 1. The set starts with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 31.

Lil Uzi Vert previously charted with two mixtapes -- Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World (No. 18 in February) and The Perfect Luv Tape (No. 20 in 2016).

Rage also debuts at No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart.

The album’s arrival spurs several of its tracks onto Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. “XO Tour Liif3,” which previewed the album, leads all songs with a 12-8 return to the top 10. Ten further cuts debut: “The Way Life Goes” (No. 17), “Sauce It Up” (No. 21), “444+222” (No. 30), “Neon Guts,” featuring Pharrell Williams (No. 38), “Two” (No. 39), “X” (No. 40), “For Real” (No. 41), “UnFazed,” featuring The Weeknd (No. 42), “No Sleep Leak” (No. 45) and “Dark Queen” (No. 47).

Logic Dials Up a Hit: Logic scores another top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs as "1-800-273-8255," featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid, zooms 13-4 following the trio’s performance of the song at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 27.

The track, whose title is also the phone number of the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, explodes with a 258 percent gain in sales for the week to 69,000 downloads sold. Streaming and radio activity both sport 21 percent week-over-week gains to 19.9 million U.S. streams and 30 million in audience, respectively.

The song becomes each of the trio's second top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Logic first visited the tier with the No. 4 hit “Sucker For Pain,” his collaboration with Lil WayneWiz KhalifaImagine DragonsTy Dolla $ign and X Ambassadors for the Suicide Squad soundtrack in 2016, while Khalid climbed to No. 8 with “Location” in May. Cara, meanwhile, went all the way to No. 1 on the chart with her maiden entry “Here,” which led for two weeks in 2016.
