U2 Lands No. 1 on Top Facebook Live Videos Chart with New Album Tease

As U2 gears up for a brand new album later this year, the band reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Facebook Live Videos chart for August 2017 after premiering new music from the LP on Aug. 30.

The chart, whose latest edition recaps August activity, is a monthly look at the widest-reaching and most-reacted-to videos posted by musicians on Facebook Live, as tracked by media analytics company Shareablee. Rankings are determined by a formula that blends reactions, comments, shares and first-seven-days views. John Mayer led the July chart.

The rockers debuted “The Blackout” with a live performance of the track, landing the most first-seven-days views of any video on the August ranking -- 11.1 million in all, according to Shareablee. It also attained the most reactions (172,000) and shares (50,000) on the service.

“Blackout” comes from Songs of Experience, U2’s upcoming 14th studio album, due Dec. 1. Its lead single, “You’re the Best Thing About Me,” was released a few days later on Sept. 6.

Though U2 dominated three of the chart’s four metrics, the leader in overall comments belonged to the No. 2 video, a live Q&A uploaded by Reba McEntire. The country singer’s 35-minute video, which was also uploaded Aug. 30, spurred quite a few comments to the video -- since the comments were questions for the diva. It garnered 149,000 total comments, more than three times the amount of any other video on the ranking in August.

Further down the chart, Blink-182 ranks at No. 6 with a stream of its Lollapalooza performance and Daddy Yankee reaches No. 9 with a Spanish language clip celebrating “Despacito” becoming the most-viewed YouTube video of all time.
