Clive Davis is a giant among music men. That is an established fact, but it helps when you hear everyone from Aretha Franklin to Paul Simon, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Simon Cowell, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Iovine and tons of other music business icons sing the praises of the legendary label boss in the new trailer for the Apple Music doc Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of our Lives.
The film, which screened at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, will debut exclusively on Apple Music on Oct. 3 and have a limited theatrical release in select cities starting Sept. 27. Directed by Chris Perkel and based on Davis' 2013 best-selling autobiography, the movie chronicles the "Man with the Golden Ears,” tracing his rise from humble beginnings to one of the most respected, successful music moguls in history.
In addition to the testimonials from the above-mentioned acts, the film traces Davis pioneering work with acts including Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, Earth, Wind & Fire, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Jennifer Hudson, Patti Smith, The Kinks, The Grateful Dead, Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston. According to a statement, the special relationship Davis had with Houston will be "dramatically captured in a heart-wrenchingly honest story that will move and enthrall audiences.
