Don Henley, Clint Black and Lyle Lovett are the latest artists chipping in to help their fellow Texans following Hurricane Harvey’s devastation.
The trio will take the stage Nov. 28 at Ft. Worth’s Bass Hall for Helping Texans: A Hurricane Harvey Benefit Concert. All ticket proceeds will go to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund at the North Texas Community Foundation, which will distribute to relief programs working in the Houston area as chosen by the artists and Ft. Worth business leader/developer Ed Bass. Tickets go on sale Sept. 22 via www.basshall.com and by phone at 817-212-4280.
For these artists, the Aug. 25 hurricane hit close to home. “We all watched on the news as Harvey destroyed much of Southeast Texas and Houston, my hometown,” said Black in a statement. “We braced ourselves through the night as the flood waters grew closer to our family's doorsteps in Houston and Katy, Texas. My mom, brothers, niece and nephews were all very fortunate and I knew I had to find a way to help those who weren’t so lucky, to recover and rebuild what was lost in the hurricane. I’m really proud to have friends like Don, Lyle and everyone at Bass Performance Hall who'll join together for the cause."
“This is another example of Texans helping Texans, and I’m proud to be a part of it,” said Henley.
The Nov. 28 concert is the latest fundraiser to help those devastated by the storm, which caused an estimated $180 billion in damage, including devastating 203,000 homes. One Sept. 12, Hand in Hand, a celebrity-fueled telethon airing on four major networks, raised more than $44 million for relief efforts. That event cut to a concert organized by George Strait, featuring Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton.
On Sept. 22, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and several other artists will appear at the Harvey Can’t Mess with Texas benefit at Austin’s Frank Erwin Center with proceeds going to Rebuild Texas.
Additionally, more than 20 venues across Texas have signed on to host Hurricane Harvey relief benefits coordinated by grassroots organization Texas Music Flood. The concerts will take place Oct. 8, 15 and 29.
