A week after Rick and Morty launched "Terryfold," performed by Chaos Chaos and featuring show co-creator Justin Roiland, onto Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart (dated Sept. 23), another song featured on the Adult Swim series shows up on a Billboard rock chart. But this time, it's a much older song.
Blonde Redhead's "For the Damaged Coda," originally released on the alternative rock band's 2000 album Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons, enters the Sept. 30 Hot Rock Songs tally at No. 19. It debuts after it was featured in the Rick and Morty episode that aired Sept. 10.
The cut drew 1.6 million U.S. streams and sold 2,000 downloads in the latest tracking week (ending Sept. 14), according to Nielsen Music. Both were sizable jumps, as the song's sales figure boosted 1,540 percent and its streaming total surged 352 percent, week-over-week.
It's also the song's best sales week since it became available as a digital download and the first time that Blonde Redhead has appeared on a Billboard songs chart. The band last made a ranking dated Sept. 20, 2014, when its most recent album, Barragan, reached multiple surveys upon its release, including No. 180 on the Billboard 200 (2,000 copies sold).
"Coda" follows "Terryfold," written for the show and performed by Chaos Chaos and Roiland (who also voices the titular characters of Rick and Morty), which bowed and peaked at No. 33 on Hot Rock Songs. "Terryfold" also spent a week atop the Comedy Digital Track Sales chart (Sept. 16; 2,000 sold); it ranks at No. 7 on the latest chart.
