Foo Fighters re-enter the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Oct. 7) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time, as the rock vets earn their second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with their new album, Concrete and Gold. The set arrives with 127,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.
The Artist 100, which launched in July 2014, measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Foo Fighters become the sixth act in the Artist 100's history to re-enter at the summit. The Lumineers achieved the feat first in April 2016, followed by Prince, Bon Jovi, A Tribe Called Quest and JAY-Z.
Album sales contribute nearly all of Foo Fighters' Artist 100 points (98 percent), as the set also debuts atop the Top Album Sales, Top Rock Albums (marking their fourth No. 1) and Vinyl Albums charts.
In another Artist 100 surge, K-pop kings BTS vault 38-5, as the group's Love Yourself: Her arrives on the Billboard 200 (31,000 units) at No. 7, BTS' highest placement on the chart and the first top 10 for a K-pop act. Concurrently, the group makes its Billboard Hot 100 debut, as "DNA" opens at No. 85.
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Taylor Swift holds at No. 2, Imagine Dragons stay at No. 3 and Ed Sheeran climbs 5-4.
