Post Malone's "Rockstar," featuring 21 Savage, is an instant success on streaming platforms, launching at No. 1 on Billboard's Streaming Songs and On-Demand Streaming Songs charts dated Oct. 7, concurrent with its No. 2 debut on the Billboard Hot 100.
The track is both artists' first No. 1 on Streaming Songs and 21 Savage's second on On-Demand Streaming Songs, following the one-week reign of "Bank Account" (Sept. 2).
In all, the song grabbed 44.1 million streams in the week ending Sept. 21, according to Nielsen Music. It was the second-most-streamed song in terms of total streams in the U.S., behind Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)," with 46.4 million. However, "Rockstar" ranks at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart (where "Bodak" is No. 2) because the Streaming Songs tally weights on-demand streams more heavily than programmed streams (like those on Pandora, where "Bodak" sports a significantly higher total than "Rockstar").
The on-demand audio tally for "Rockstar" is further impressive: 39.6 million. That's the best first-week sum for any song and the second-largest on-demand figure in the chart's history (it began in 2012), eclipsed only by the 44.4 million sum that Kendrick Lamar's "Humble." attained in its third week on the chart (May 6).
On-demand audio plays from Spotify and Apple Music account for 81 percent of the starting sum for "Rockstar," as the track went without an official audio clip on YouTube for much of the tracking week.
Previously, Malone rose to No. 4 on Streaming Songs with "Congratulations" (featuring Quavo; July 15), and the song never reached the individual stream count highs of "Rockstar," its best week garnering 30.8 million (July 8), concurrent with the song's No. 8 peak on the Hot 100.
Raking Up Streams: The Streaming Songs chart's greatest gainer is Yo Gotti's "Rake It Up" (featuring Nicki Minaj), which ascends 9-7 with a 20 percent boost to 28.2 million. The chief culprit for the bump was the acts' Sept. 14 performance on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon; the performance video was uploaded to Yo Gotti's YouTube page the following day, also the start of the tracking week. The track rises 20-16 on On-Demand Streaming Songs, gathering 9.6 million on-demand audio clicks.
'New' Peaks: Dua Lipa's "New Rules" is now her best-charting entry on Streaming Songs, as her latest single leaps 48-38 with 12.4 million overall streams, up 12 percent. That's the first time that Dua Lipa has reached the chart's top 40, after previously peaking at No. 45 with "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" nearly a year ago. The streaming advance accompanies "Rules" rising 29-25 on the Pop Songs airplay chart and 56-53 on the Hot 100.
Plus, Lil Pump appears on Streaming Songs for the first time as "Gucci Gang" debuts at No. 50 (10.3 million, up 20 percent). The song shoots 81-71 on the Hot 100, where it's the rapper's first appearance. On the On-Demand Streaming Songs chart, "Gang" bows at No. 42.
