Korean Channel Is Giving BTS Their Own Music Special for the Second Time

Mnet, a Korean channel, confirmed that filming has been completed for an exclusive, one-time music show starring Hallyu sensations BTS. The Bangtan Boys have shattered record after record among K-pop artists, breaking into the top 10 on Billboard 200 and claiming the sixth spot of most-viewed music videos within a 24-hour period. So, it makes sense that Korean channels would want to tap into their success.

This marks the second time Mnet has given BTS their own special, which is a rarity in K-pop. Soompi reports that the program will take on a format similar to the boy band’s Sept. 21 comeback show, which featured a combination of behind-the-scenes footage, talk segments and performances. Last week, it was announced that a network, MBC, would replace its music show, “Show Champion,” with a BTS special that focused on the history of the group.

Mnet’s working title, “BTS Countdown,” combines the boy band’s international name with the channel’s music show, “M! Countdown.” If the title is kept, it’ll hint at the group’s growing globalization, since BTS is primarily recognized by the name “Bangtan Sonyeondan” (which literally means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts”) in Korea.

The show is expected to air in October.
