Atlantic Names Kevin Weaver President, West Coast

Longtime Atlantic Records exec and Grammy winner Kevin Weaver has been promoted to the newly created position of president, West Coast at the storied label. Atlantic Records Group chairman/COO Julie Greenwald and chairman/CEO Craig Kallman made the announcement on Wednesday morning, calling Weaver "one of the most accomplished and forward-thinking executives in our business."

Weaver first joined Atlantic in 1994 and was most recently president of film and television and executive vp of Atlantic Records Group. In his new role, he'll continue spearheading the growth of the label's soundtrack, sync and visual media divisions, but he'll also oversee all Los Angeles-based artist development and collaborate with an expanding talent roster.

In recent years, Weaver has overseen RIAA Platinum-certified soundtracks for Furious 7 and Suicide Squad, the former of which featured the massive hit "See You Again," by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. Upcoming film/TV projects include the soundtracks for Netflix's Bright, 20th Century Fox's The Greatest Showman, and two NBC primetime concert specials featuring Ed Sheeran and Coldplay, respectively.

He's earned five Grammy Award nominations over the years, winning in 2010 for the soundtrack for HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

"The appointment of Kevin as our first-ever West Coast President reflects both his expanded leadership position and the pivotal role that the city of Los Angeles and our fantastic LA team play in our success," said Greenwald and Kallman. "Kevin’s exceptional relationships across the entire entertainment industry extend far beyond the film and TV worlds, and have led to tremendous opportunities to break artists, grow their careers, and broaden their audiences."

Except for a two-year break around the tail-end of the Clinton administration, when he moved to Tommy Boy Music, Weaver has been a mainstay at Atlantic since 1994. Here's what his timeline at the Warner Music label looks like:

1994: Joined the Los Angeles office as coordinator of A&R/Multimedia.
1995: Moved to Atlantic's Lava imprint, where he led soundtrack development.
1998-2000: Left to become head of A&R/soundtracks at Tommy Boy Music.
2000: Returned to Lava as director of A&R/soundtracks, later senior director/vp.
2003: Bumped to Lava’s senior vp of strategic marketing and soundtracks.
2006: Promoted to senior vp of Atlantic Records.
2009: Make that executive vp of the Atlantic Records Group.
2014: Promoted to president of film and television.

"It has been an amazing experience to be part of this label's evolution and reinvention," said Weaver. "With Craig and Julie constantly championing innovation and creativity, from our artists and our team alike, they have created the model music company for the 21st century. LA has long been one of the world's most vital music cities, and Atlantic has been at the center of its cultural life for many decades."
