-- IMPALA, the European independent trade label group, announced three new board members and its new leadership team at its annual meeting in Hamburg on Sept. 22. Mark Kitcatt of Everlasting Records in Spain was elected as the new chair of the organization; with Kees van Weijen, representing Dutch association STOMP, serving as president; Belgian association BIMA representative Geert De Blaere re-elected as treasurer; and with Helen Smith continuing as executive chair.

In a statement, van Weijen said one of Impala’s main tasks is helping to close "the value gap and the power gap. These are hot topics at the moment with Europe leading the way.

Independent labels have been pulling together to make sure they get a fair shake in the digital economy, just like the major labels. Closing the value gap will "guarantee the independent sector’s ability to finance new talent," De Blaere  added in a statement.

The organization’s management board added two new members, Noemí Planas, representing Spanish association UFI; and Jörg Heidemann for German association VUT. They join continuing management board members Beggars Group’s Martin Mills and PIAS Music Group’s Michel Lambot, and Francesca Trainini of PMI, the Italian association.

In other moves, three new members were appointed to the organization's overall board of directors, Lampshade Media, Kobalt Music Recordings and Sugar Music. For full details on the board, see: http://www.impalamusic.org/node/15

"We will see a lot of change in Europe over the next two years. Mark, Kees and Geert will do a great job steering the ship and with Noemi and Jörg joining the management board team, we are in excellent shape," Smith said in a statement. "Our new Board members Lampshade Media, Kobalt Music Recordings, and Sugar Music will also bring a lot to the table."
