Spotify Creates Time Capsule Playlist to Satisfy Your Nostalgic Cravings

Spotify's latest personalized playlist looks to capitalize on your nostalgic side. The music streaming leader has unveiled "Your Time Capsule," a 30-song playlist that gathers tracks it believes will transport you back to your teens and early twenties -- a "trip down memory lane," as it were.

"'Your Time Capsule' follows on the success of Your Summer Rewind, Spotify’s latest personalized playlist launched this summer, but is designed to evoke powerful memories from your youth," writes Alice Löfgren, a social media market manager at the company.

Available to most users in 60 markets -- those under 16 will have to make more memories first -- "Your Time Capsule" factors in a person's age, country and current listening pattern to create the playlist.

A cursory glance at one Spotify subscriber's time capsule reveals a mostly accurate representation of the music he enjoyed in his youth, with healthy doses of Ween, Matthew Sweet, Bad Religion, Wilco and Teenage Fanclub. It's not all perfect however, as the playlist thinks that since the user loved Mojave 3 back in the day that he was a big shoegaze fan -- wrong, that came much later. The addition of Another Bad Creation's "Iesha" was particularly confusing, given the superiority of "Playground."

In contrast with other personalized playlists found on Spotify, such as Discover Weekly or Release Radar, the "Time Capsule" has been sealed and will not update.

To find the new playlist on desktop or mobile versions of Spotify, go to Browse -> Genre & Moods -> Decades; it's also found at the dedicated site timecapsule.spotify.com.
