Sound on Sound Fest 2017 Canceled Due to Unspecified Roadblocks

The organizers of the Sound on Sound Fest announced Friday (Oct. 6) that the music festival was canceled due to timing issues during the planning process. The event had been scheduled for Nov. 10-12 at the Lost Pines Forest, 35 miles from Austin, Texas, with Yeah Yeah YeahsGrizzly BearIggy Pop and more on the bill.

“We are extremely saddened to announce today that Sound On Sound Fest 2017 is being cancelled,” the festival said in a statement. “This is one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make. Due to several recent roadblocks outside of our control and in an effort to do right by our fans, the decision to cancel the event was our only real option.”

Refunds are being issued through the festival's ticketing partner, Eventbrite, and festival organizers are planning individual shows with the "majority of the artists" who had been scheduled for the festival at local venues. “For all these rescheduled shows, fans who purchased Sound On Sound tickets will get the first chance to purchase single tickets to any makeup shows this fall,” the statement said.

The schedule for shows will be announced on Oct. 16, when a private presale will be held exclusively for all Sound on Sound Fest ticket holders.

“Our team has had a longstanding and successful relationship with Margin Walker Presents,” said Greg Patterson, director of strategy, Music at Eventbrite, in a separate statement. “It’s disappointing any time an event doesn’t go as planned but we support and share the fierce dedication Graham [Williams of Margin Walker] and his team have shown to fans, and their overall contribution to the live music scene. We look forward to our continued partnership.”
