Cardi B Breaks Into Top 10 on Social 50 Chart

Cardi B breaks into the Social 50’s top 10 for the first time, leaping 13-2 on the chart dated Oct. 14 with a 107 percent increase in all social media metrics, according to Next Big Sound, in the week ending Sept. 28.

The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and engagement. The chart’s latest tracking week ended Sept. 28.

Much of the social activity spurring her 13-2 move was generated by the rapper’s rise to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated Oct. 7 with “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” earning 506,000 Twitter reactions and a 136 percent boost in Wikipedia views, with Cardi tweeting Sept. 25 that getting her first No. 1 on the chart was “the happiest day of my life.”

This is the happiest day of my life and no 1 will take this joy from me .I wish you sour patches a good day !Thats how happy I am .

The rapper also participated in the “For the Dick” challenge (originated by New Orleans rapper GameOva Reedy and also done by Erykah Badu, Issa Rae and more) with a freestyle on Instagram that’s been viewed more than 6 million times.

J. Cole Returns: At No. 20 on the Social 50, J. Cole re-enters, charting for the first time in 2017. It’s also his highest peak yet, besting the No. 23 rank he achieved on the Jan. 3, 2015, chart.

Cole, who is generally fairly quiet on Twitter, embarked on a lengthy Twitter thread Sept. 24 praising football players opting to kneel during the national anthem but also encouraging fans to not watch the NFL at all in midst of the protests. The rapper garnered 68,000 new Twitter followers and 534,000 reactions.

Pabllo Vittar Debuts: Finally, Brazilian singer/drag queen Pabllo Vittar debuts at No. 44, gathering 3.8 million reactions and 165,000 new followers on Instagram. Vittar continues to bask in the glow of “Corpo Sensual,” her latest music video (released Sept. 6), which has earned over 60 million views worldwide.

“Never give up on your dreams,” she wrote in Portuguese in one Instagram post thanking viewers for 50 million views.

Vittar’s previous Billboard chart history came as a featured artist on Major Lazer’s “Sua Cara,” which also featured fellow Brazilian star Anitta, reaching No. 26 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (Aug. 19).
