Jordan Peele Tells Stephen Colbert Get Out is a Historical Documentary

Actor and director Jordan Peele dropped by the Late Show on Wednesday to discuss his film Get Out being nominated for a Golden Globe for best musical/comedy.

Peele told host Stephen Colbert, "I submitted it as a documentary."

The director went on to further explain his thoughts on the film: "Here’s the thing, the movie is truth. The thing that resonated with people was truth, so for me it’s more of a historical biopic.”

Peele similarly joked about the nomination earlier on Wednesday on Twitter, saying, "'Get Out' is a documentary."

Peele's film being nominated in the musical/comedy section, a thriller that deals with racial tensions in America, rose a few eyebrows on social media. The Golden Globes only has two major categories for films: drama and musical/comedy. A similar situation occurred in 2015 with Ridley Scott's sci-fi film The Martian being nominated in the musical/comedy category.

Peele's film earned a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a fact which garnered the question from Colbert, "Who's the 1%?"

"Racism," Peele replied. He then added, "I'm happy with the humble 99%."
