Rose McGowan Shows Love for Salma Hayek After Op-Ed Exposing Monster Harvey Weinstein

Actress Rose McGowan showered her friend Salma Hayek with support Wednesday (Dec. 13) on Twitter in light of Hayek’s New York Times op-edexposing her nightmare interactions with Harvey Weinstein.

“I’d heard whispers for years,” wrote McGowan, who has accused the film producer of rape. “All we wanted to do was create art and put food on the table. That’s it. Instead we got the Monster from Hell."

Salma, I’d heard whispers for years. I’m so sorry they were true. All we wanted to do was create art and put food on the table. That’s it. Instead, we got the Monster from Hell. We deserved so much more from those we paid to protect us. Love to you. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/12/13/opinion/contributors/salma-hayek-harvey-weinstein.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

Hayek discussed the filming of Frida in her piece, a film that she starred in and produced and which also won Weinstein two Oscars. She refers to him as “her monster,” diving into details about how Weinstein demanded a sex scene between Hayek and co-star Ashley Judd. He even threatened her life, allegedly saying, “I will kill you, don’t think I can’t.”

Hayek mentioned that she was reluctant to tell her story, as so many women already had: “I felt that by now nobody would care about my pain -- maybe this was an effect of the many times I was told, especially by Harvey, that I was nobody.”

McGowan isn’t the only starlet to stand with Hayek: Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Jessica Chaistain and Kerry Washington, have also tweeted support for the actress.
