Biz Stone is back at Twitter.
The entrepreneur, who co-founded Twitter with Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams, is returning to the company to help guide its corporate culture, he writes in a blog post published Tuesday morning. The move comes two months after Stone sold Q&A app Jelly to Pinterest.
"It's important that everyone understands the whole story of Twitter and each of our roles in that story," reads the blog post. "I'll shape the experience internally so it's also felt outside the company."
Twitter stock is trading up 2 percent on the news.
Twitter was founded in 2006 with Dorsey as CEO. Williams took over as CEO in 2008, leading the company until Dick Costolo assumed the role and led the company through its initial public offering. Dorsey, who went on to found payments startup Square, became interim CEO in July 2015 following the departure of Costolo. The appointment was made permanent a few months later. Stone's return to the company reunites him with Dorsey and Williams, who serves on the Twitter board in addition to running publishing platform Medium.
Stone writes that Dorsey approached him about returning to Twitter a few months ago after he joined the CEO for one of its weekly staff meetings, known internally as Tea Time.
"I'm not replacing anyone at Twitter," he notes. "Somebody mentioned I'm just filling the 'Biz shaped hole' I left." A Twitter spokeswoman declined to provide additional information about Stone's position.
Stone concludes that he looks forward to working with Dorsey and Twitter's chief marketing officer, Leslie Berland: "Twitter has woven itself into the fabric of our global society. The world needs Twitter and it's here stay. I'm so lucky that I get to step back in and help shape its future."
