Netflix’s hit show 13 Reasons Why dominates THR’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind and Shazam, for April, as seven songs from the show crack the top 10 – the most ever for a single television series.
Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending respective Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the corresponding period.
With seven songs in the top 10, the show now sets a new record for most songs from a single television series in the top 10. Previously, the most songs in the top 10 from one show was five, racked up by Girls, Stranger Things and Grey’s Anatomy.
Lord Huron's "The Night We Met” leads the chart for the second straight month after appearing in the fifth episode of 13 Reasons’ first season, which was released on March 31. Lord Huron has led the Top TV Songs chart for a record three total months -- the group also led the February 2016 chart with “Fool for Love” after being featured in HBO’s Girls.
While last month, Lord Huron became the first to act to lead the Top TV Songs chart for multiple months, “The Night We Met” now becomes the first song to lead the chart for multiple months.
“The Night We Met” leads all songs with 244,000 Shazam tags, 72,000 downloads sold and 22 million streams in April, according to Nielsen Music. The song has also become a Billboard chart hit since the show aired. The song hit No. 3 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart (dated May 3), No. 5 on the Hot Rock Songs chart (dated May 6) and No. 84 on the Hot 100 (chart dated May 13).
Elsewhere on the Top TV Songs chart, Selena Gomez makes her chart debut, as “Only You” enters at No. 2. The song, which is a cover of Yaz’s 1982 synth-pop hit, is featured on 13 Reasons’ soundtrack. Gomez is also an executive producer for the show.
The song earns its placement on the strength of 59,000 Shazam tags, 21,000 downloads sold and 7 million streams in April, according to Nielsen Music.
Yaz’s original version of the song reached No. 67 on the Hot 100 chart dated March 19, 1983. Enrique Iglesias also recorded a Spanish cover of the song, “Solo En Ti,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart (dated May 3, 1997).
Finally, Ituana’s cover of the Rolling Stones 1973 classic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” enters the chart at No. 4 after being featured on Big Little Lies’ first season finale on April 2. Thanks to its appearance, the song logs 69,000 Shazam tags, 14,000 downloads sold and 735,000 million streams in April.
