Harry Styles is the top man in Australia where his debut Harry (Columbia/Sony) starts at No. 1 on the national albums chart, while Luis Fonsiand Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” (Republic/Universal) featuring Justin Bieber climbs to the lead on the singles chart.
Styles, the former One Direction singer, couldn't have dreamt for a better start to his solo career. Harry bows at the top in the U.S. U.K and now Australia after its lead single “Sign Of The Times” blasted to the summit around the globe and reached the summit of the ARIA Singles Chart in April.
The pop star, who enjoyed a profile boost from his week-long residency on the Late Late Show, is the second 1D member to bow atop the ARIA Albums Chart after Zayn Malik, whose Mind Of Mine took the title in April 2016.
Just days after Ed Sheeran announced his next stadium tour of these parts, the British singer’s triple-platinum third album Divide (Warner) dips 1-2 on the ARIA Albums Chart, while Paramore’s fifth studio album After Laughter (Atlantic/Warner), the followup to the U.S. alternative rockers’ chart-topping self-titled set from April 2013, begins at No. 3.
The top five on this week's tally is completed by Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 2, down 2-4 and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., down 3-5.
Also enjoying berths in the top 20 are Zac Brown Band’s Welcome Home (No. 8 via Atlantic/Warner), the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 Kyiv compilation (No. 15 Universal) and Dead Letter Circus’ The Endless Mile (No. 17 via TTT/Sony).
On the ARIA Singles Chart, “Despacito” rises 2-1 for its first stint at the peak in its fourth week. According to ARIA, it’s the first chart-topper performed predominantly in a language other than English since PSY’s "Gangnam Style," which lead the survey in October 2012, and the first No. 1 performed mostly in Spanish since Las Ketchup’s "The Ketchup Song" (Asereje) hit the top in October 2002.
The week’s highest new entry goes to Miley Cyrus “Malibu” (RCA/Sony), which starts at No. 3 for her fifth top ten in Australia.
