Tom Hardy Begins Fundraising Campaign for Manchester Attack Victims

Tom Hardy launched an online fundraising campaign for the victims of Monday's (May 22) deadly terrorist attack following an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena.

The star of the upcoming Venom film and west London native, said on the JustGiving campaign page — verified to The Hollywood Reporter by his publicist — that he hoped to raise £15,000, or nearly $20,000, for the British Red Cross Society. As of Wednesday morning (May 24), Hardy's page raised more than $10,000.

"I hope between us we can raise some funds as a gesture of goodwill and love to help in some small way towards repairing some if any of the damage done in the wake of last night's events," Hardy wrote. "There will be much to do and for many the beginning of a new life without those that they love and also a new life damaged irrevocably by the actions of a crime which has no reason, no heartfelt purpose but was simply a cruel cowardly and barbaric, meaningless act of violence. A road to recovery unimaginable."

The Monday night terrorist attack killed 22 people and wounded dozens more, many of whom remain hospitalized.

"Terrorism is abhorrent, the killing of innocent families and children unacceptable," Hardy wrote. "And it is with those, the innocent victims and the witnesses of this atrocity that my heartfelt concern and deepest sympathy lies. Please help however you can."
