Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” (Republic/Universal), featuring Justin Bieber, locks up a second straight week atop Australia’s singles chart while Ed Sheeran’s Divide (Warner) returns to the albums chart summit for a 10th non-successive week at No. 1.
Sheeran’s third album rises 2-1 at the end of an eventful week during which the English singer-songwriter extended his upcoming stadium tour to a record-busting 18 dates after more than 710,000 tickets sold in less than a day. Divide is now four-times platinum certified (280,000 units) after 12 weeks on the national chart.
With Divide reclaiming the ARIA Albums Chart title, Harry Styles’ debut set Harry (Columbia/Sony) drops into second place after a week-long stay, while Linkin Park has the highest new entry with One More Light (Warner), which starts at No. 3 for the American alternative rockers’ eighth top 10 entry. Positions No. 4 and No. 5 are unchanged with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 (Hollywood Records/Universal) and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (Interscope/Universal), respectively.
Also this week, Chris Cornell’s music floods into the albums chart after the grunge legend’s untimely death May 18. Seven sets featuring Cornell’s vocals re-enter the top 50, led by Soundgarden’s 1994 classic Superunknown (Universal) at No. 7 and Audioslave’s self-titled Epic/Sony LP, just one place below at No. 8.
The latest ARIA Singles Chart has a strong One Direction feel about it as Harry Styles’ “Sign Of The Times” slips 4-5, Niall Horan’s “Slow Hands” (Capitol/EMI) improves from No. 17 to a new peak of No. 10, and Liam Payne lands the week’s highest new entry with “Strip That Down” (Capitol/EMI) featuring Quavo at No. 11.
Other new arrivals to the latest singles chart include Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” (Interscope/Universal) at No. 13 and Katy Perry’s “Swish Swish" (Capitol/EMI) featuring Nicki Minaj, which opens its account at No. 37. Just two homegrown tracks crack the top 50 this week: former X-Factor contestant Dean Lewis’ “Waves” (Island/Universal) at No. 16, and Bliss N Eso’s “Moments” (Illusive/Universal) at No. 30.
