Ralph Peer II Honored at 2017 International Midem Awards

He was recognized for his leadership in the global publishing commuity as chair and CEO of peermusic and board member with the International Confederation of Music Publishers.

Ralph Peer II, chair and CEO of peermusic and International Confederation of Music Publishers board member, was honored Wednesday for his contribution to the music ecosystem at the 2017 International Midem Awards in Cannes, France. 

The annual awards gala dinner was held at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes and hosted by Paul Zilk, CEO of Reed Midem. Peer's award was presented in recognition of his leadership with peermusic, one of the world's largest independent music publishers that this year celebrates its 90th anniversary, as well as his broad dedication to the music publishing community. His achievements at broadening genre boundaries, developing new models for the global music industry, promoting diversity and defending songwriters' rights and the value of music were all noted. 

"For nearly 50 years, Ralph has helped to develop, protect and value the music of composers and authors around the world. He is a quite simply an icon of the music publishing industry and this Award, which celebrates this status, is thoroughly deserved," said ICMP director general Coco Carmona in a statement.

Peer thanked Midem when accepting the award, saying, "Our sector has benefited greatly by having this common ground as the world around us has evolved into an entirely different type of marketplace."

The 2017 International Midem Awards were also presented to artist manager and First Access Entertainment co-founder Sarah Stennett, Because Music CEO and founder Emmanuel de Buretel, and Shazam executive chairman Andrew Fisher.
