Imagine Dragons’ hit single “Believer” leads THR’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind and Shazam, for May, after its appearance in The CW’s Riverdale.
Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending respective Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the corresponding period.
The song debuts on the chart after appearing in the thirteenth episode of Riverdale’s first season on May 11. “Believer” also topped Billboard & Clio’s Top TV Commercials chart for March after being featured in Nintento’s “Switch” ad. “Believer” is now the only song to top both the Top TV Songs and Top TV Commercials chart.
“Believer” leads all songs with 307,000 Shazam tags, 303,000 downloads sold and 37 million streams in May, according to Nielsen Music. The song has also been a hit on Billboard’s charts. The song currently stands at No. 4 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 (both dated June 24). On the latter list, it’s the band highest charting hit since early 2014, when “Demons” finished peaked at No. 6.
The new song is featured on Imagine Dragons’ forthcoming third studio album Evolve, due out June 23.
Elsewhere on the Top TV Songs chart, four tracks featured in the Netflix original series Sense8 crack the top 10. 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up” arrives the highest at No. 4, while Ben Howard’s “Small Things,” Emmit Fenn’s “Painting Greys” and Lamb’s “Wise Enough” land at Nos. 7, 8 and 9, respectively.
The four songs from Sense8 appear on the show’s second season, which was released in its entirety on May 5. Sense8 last appeared on the Top TV Songs chart in December 2016, when two songs from the show debuted in the top 10.
Finally, Edoardo Vianello debuts on the chart at No. 10 with “Guarda Come Dondolo,” after its appearance in Master of None’s second season, which was released on Netflix on May 12. The entry is a first for the 78-year-old Italian singer, composer and actor, who had never appeared on a Billboard chart prior to the song’s debut.
Thanks to its appearance, the song logs 15,000 Shazam tags, 900 downloads sold and 120,000 streams in May, according to Nielsen Music.
