A grand jury has indicted Ty Dolla $ign on felony drug charges of cocaine and marijuana possession, as TMZ reports on Monday (Dec. 10).
The report, which was later confirmed by Pitchfork, goes on to say that the pair of felony charges and a misdemeanor could put the California-bred artist behind bars for up to 15 years if convicted.
Back in September, Dolla $ign was arrested following a traffic stop in Atlanta alongside Skrillex and five others riding together in a sprinter van. Law enforcement searched the vehicle with dogs and claimed to discover weed and cocaine. Ty was the only one reportedly detained and brought back to Fulton County jail.
Prior to being arrested (Sept. 5), the 33-year-old was on his way to perform alongside G-Eazy for a show at Atlanta's Cellairis Amphitheatre. Cops released a statement to Billboard immediately after the incident. "The incident took place at 4:55 p.m. when a car the rapper (born Tyrone William Griffin Jr.) was traveling in with six others was stopped on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and officers said they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle," the Atlanta Police Department relayed.
Billboard has reached out to Ty Dolla $ign's reps for comment. See one of the arresting officer's body cam footage from the altercation here.
