DJ Khaled Earns First No. 1 on Hot R&B Songs Chart with Wild Thoughts

DJ Khaled scores his first No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart (dated July 15), as "Wild Thoughts," featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, rises 2-1.

Tiller also earns his first No. 1 on the chart, while Rihanna tallies her record-setting fifth, passing Drake and The Weeknd, each with four (dating to the chart's 2012 launch). Khaled, who has notched five top 10s on the survey, previously peaked at a No. 3 high in November 2016 with "Do You Mind," featuring Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Future and Rick Ross.

The new coronation halts Bruno Mars' 19-week run at No. 1 with "That's What I Like," a week shy of matching the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the chart. Drake's "One Dance," featuring WizKid and Kyla, led for 20 frames in 2016, and The Weeknd's "Starboy," featuring Daft Punk, equaled the feat in February.

"Thoughts" also reaches new peaks on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (No. 2) and the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 3). As DJ Khaled's "I'm the One," featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, leads Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fourth week, and with "Thoughts" up 3-2, Khaled is the first act to rank at Nos. 1 and 2 on the chart simultaneously since Drake on Feb. 20, 2016 -- with his own "Summer Sixteen" and as featured on Rihanna's "Work," at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, that week. Khaled is the first artist to double up at Nos. 1 and 2 as a lead on both songs since The Weeknd, whose "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face" held the top two spots, in that order, on Oct. 10, 2015.

Meanwhile, "One" rules Hot Rap Songs for a ninth week. With "Thoughts" now atop Hot R&B Songs, Khaled is the first act to top both charts at the same time since (surprise) Drake, whose "Too Good," featuring Rihanna, led Hot Rap Songs for three weeks in September while "One Dance" was amid its 20-week command on Hot R&B Songs.

The only other such twofer at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously also belongs to Drake, with "Summer Sixteen" (Hot R&B Songs) and "Work" (Hot Rap Songs) on Feb, 20, 2016.

Both "Thoughts" and "One" are from DJ Khaled's new album Grateful, which debuts as his fourth No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart and second No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop AlbumsHe previously led Top Rap Albums with Major Key in 2016; I Changed a Lot in 2015; and We the Best Forever in 2011. He first crowned Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with Major Key.

Grateful, DJ Khaled's 10th studio album, arrives atop each chart, and at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200, with 149,000 equivalent album units (50,000 in traditional album sales) in the week ending June 29, according to Nielsen Music.

DRAKE'S 175TH: As for more Drake, four months after releasing his album More Life, his new stand-alone single "Signs" debuts at No. 14 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. He first premiered the track in Louis Vuitton's SS18 men's fashion show at Paris Fashion Week on June 22. In the tracking week ending June 29, it drew 11.8 million U.S. streams and sold 30,000 downloads.

"Signs" is Drake's 29th title to appear on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in 2017, the most of any artist this year, and extends his lead for the most Hot R&B/Hop-Hop Songs appearances (175), dating to the chart's Oct. 20, 1958, inception as an all-encompassing genre survey.

"Signs" also debuts at No. 36 on the Hot 100 and at No. 5 on Hot R&B Songs, where it's the MC's eighth top five hit.
