Sony Pictures Entertainment Promotes Spring Aspers to Head of Music

Yesterday (July 6), Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the promotion of Spring Aspers to head of music. Formerly, Aspers held the title of executive vice president, music creative affairs. In her new role, Aspers will oversee all music-related facets of the company's film labels.

Most recently, Aspers worked with Edgar Wright on the soundtrack for the just-released hit film Baby Driver, starring Billboard cover star Ansel Elgort, which hit the number one soundtrack slot in the iTunes Store following its release. Prior to joining Sony Pictures in 2009, Aspers had launched the soundtrack department at Island Def Jam Records where she helped produce soundtracks for films like 2 Fast 2 FuriousJackass and Spider-Man.

Aspers got her start working alongside filmmakers the Coen Brothers on the iconic cult film The Big Lebowski and later worked with with Ice Cube on several films, including Next Friday, allowing her to "quickly become known as one of the best music supervisors in the business," according to an internal memo written by Sanford Panitch, president of Columbia Pictures.

At Sony, Aspers also worked on the soundtrack to the 2012 film Think Like a Man, which nabbed John Legend a Grammy nomination for the song "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)" in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration field at the 2013 awards.
