Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee continue to dominate ARIA’s singles chart with “Despacito” while Ed Sheeran extends his rule over the albums survey.
The Puerto Rican stars’ “Despacito” (Republic/Universal), which features Justin Bieber, logs an eighth successive week atop the ARIA Singles Chart and is now double platinum Down Under.
“Despacito,” which means “slowly” in Spanish, bests another slow burner, Niall Horan's "Slow Hands" (Capitol/EMI), which rises from No. 5 to a new peak of No. 2 off the back of the former One Direction singer’s promotional visit to these shores.
DJ Khaled has two tracks in the top 5, led by "Wild Thoughts" (Epic/Sony) featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, which dips 2-3, and the Miami rapper and producer’s former chart-topping collab ‘I'm The One" (Universal/Sony), featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, which slips 4-5. Wedged between those two singles is another 1D star, Liam Payne, whose solo debut “Strip That Down” (Capitol/EMI) featuring Quavo is down 3-4.
With a 12-6 blast up the tally for “Thunder” (Interscope/Universal), Imagine Dragons swoop for a third top 10 and a career equaling high (“Radioactive” also hit No. 6 in July 2013), while Calvin Harris bounces into the top 10 with “Feels,” the Scottish producer and DJ’s collab with Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean. Lifted from Harris’ latest album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 (Columbia/Sony), which opens at No. 5 on the national albums chart this week, “Feels” soars 26-9 for his 11th top 10 single in Australia.
The week’s best performing debut comes from Judah Kelly, 2017 season winner of The Voice Australia (Universal), whose “Count On Me” starts at No. 19. Kelly’s release is his first to crack the top 40 and it’s the second highest-ranked homegrown track on this week’s chart, behind Jessica Mauboy's "Fallin'" (Sony) up 20-15.
After returning to the summit last week, Ed Sheeran's Divide (Warner) snatches top spot for a 14th non-consecutive week on the ARIA Albums Chart, a feat which means the English singer-songwriter has spent half of the year to date at No. 1.
Rockers Stone Sour drop in at No. 2 with Hydrograd (Roadrunner/Warner), their sixth and highest-charting album, while Lorde’s Melodrama (Universal) slips 2-3 and Katy Perry’s whirlwind promo trip gives her latest album Witness (Capitol/EMI) a boost. It’s up 10-4 while her single “Swish Swish” collects a new peak on the ARIA Singles Chart, soaring 44-22.
