Jennifer Hudson Wraps Filming Aretha Franklin Biopic Respect: It Was My Honor

Before taking the stage at Sunday night's (Feb. 16) NBA All-Star Game, Jennifer Hudson shared the news this weekend that filming has been completed for Respect, the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic in which she's taken on the lead role as the Queen of Soul.

"It is officially a wrap on @respectmovie wrap it up , it’s done !" she wrote on Instagram.

"To overwhelmed to get into it right now but words can’t express how grateful I am to be chosen by the queen herself and to live out yet another dream ! It was my honor , to honor the Queens request ! The one and only Queen of soul #ArethaFranklin #respectMovie," she said.

Hudson then shared a second post with a series of photos from the set of Respect, which is set to hit theaters on Oct. 9.

She captioned the collection of pictures with a message to the film's cast and crew: "I have to give credit where credit is due ! To every single cast and crew member who put your heart and soul into this project ! It was beyond a joy and a pleasure to work side by side with each and everyone of u ! Lord knows if I could post every picture , I would but u know who u r !! From the director to the DP , to hair and makeup acting coach and extras too ! To each and every driver and everyone in between ! Much Respect to all of you !!!!"

As Hudson confirmed to Stephen Colbert in December, Franklin -- who passed away in 2018 -- had handpicked her for the role back in 2007, following Hudson's Oscar win for Dreamgirls. Franklin made her final decision on the casting while Hudson was part of the 2015 revival of The Color Purple on Broadway.
