Stewart brothers continue to offer message of hope through timely single ‘His Door is Open’

CINCINNATI, OH – Del and Garry K. Stewart have had multiple brushes with fame over the nearly five decades that they’ve spent making music. They’ve performed alongside some of the biggest names in history, but they’ve also turned down some major opportunities early in their career in favor of taking care of family.

In 1985, for instance, they were invited by the notorious Gregory Hines to come out to California and record an album. Because of their mother’s health, they politely declined. Two years later, they met Huey Lewis and the News who also invited them to come to California to record. But again, they chose to care for ailing family members and declined. Yet a third opportunity came in 1988 when they were invited to tour throughout Japan to promote their song “Family Affair.” But as the name of that song would imply, these talented musicians would always put family first and again chose to respectfully decline in favor of taking care of their mother. She sadly passed about four weeks after that opportunity. But if there’s one thing that experience shows about The Stewarts, it’s that they’re true to their family and hold fast to the convictions that come from their deep faith in God.

Those convictions come to the forefront on their latest single “His Door is Open.” One part R&B and one part Gospel, “His Door is Open” is like Motown meets modern-day Soul with some Pop vibes thrown in for good measure. It’s the perfect song to continue the legacy of these two brothers and the uplifting messages they’ve been passing along through music for the past 45 years.

“We feel our sound is Christian Pop,” Garry said. “We’re incorporating old school with new school. That comes with a softer sound that’s bringing positive lyrics. A lot of songs out there right now are more profanity-driven and don’t have any type of a strong message. The message we’re trying to convey is a strong message about Christ our hope and not giving up on your dreams. We’ve been around since 1975, and that should attest to other people that whatever dreams you have are never over until God says they’re over. If you decide to quit, then you’re giving up on your dreams and sometimes you gotta fight for your dreams.”

The contemporary Pop and Christian song is one that the duo originally wrote about four years ago. But with the state of affairs in the world being what it is, they decided it was time for a re-release.

“The message is positive and something that everybody needs to hear,” Del said. “The video just enhances the lyrics – showing everybody of different races and colors coming together. People need to hear that no matter what you’re going through, don’t ever give up hope because He’s right there for you. It doesn’t matter your situation, you just have to reach out to Him and He’ll come right in. His door is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week.”

The single is not only timely, but indicative of the kind of music these brothers have been making for years. And though they have the natural talent to be superstars, it’s no surprise that they’ve often chosen to forego fame in favor of faith and family.

“Our music is positive, encouraging and giving out hope,” Del said. “That might sound repetitious, but we really are serious about putting God first in our lives. Whatever we do, we put Him first. We want people to see that and hear that and feel that with our music.”
