Halsey is opening up about her intentional pregnancy.
The 26-year-old singer, who is expecting her first child with screenwriter Alev Aydin, set the record straight on her Instagram Story Monday (March 1).
"Why is it ok to speculate and pass judgement about fertility and conception?" she wrote. "My pregnancy was 100% planned, and I tried very hard for this bb. But I would be just as happy even if it were another way."
The "Be Kind" singer announced her pregnancy in late January while wearing a rainbow crochet crop top that served as a subtle reminder of her previous pregnancy loss, with the expected child being a "rainbow baby." She opened up about suffering a miscarriage onstage before she even had time to fully process she was pregnant in a 2018 interview on The Doctors. Halsey also shared that she was battling endometriosis, which can cause infertility, and she underwent surgery for it in 2017.
The then-23-year-old singer also said during The Doctors interview that she decided to freeze her eggs, saying, "I need to be aggressive about protecting my fertility, about protecting myself." In February, Halsey proudly showed off the scars on her lower abdomen from the surgery on her Instagram Story. "The scars that got me this angel," she wrote, adding the hashtag #endowarrior.
