Demi Lovato Is Full of Peace With Her Body After Dismissing Diet Culture

Demi Lovato is "full of peace, serenity, joy, and love" with her body, and she dispelled dieting and exercising standards in her latest affirming message.

In an Instagram video from Monday (March 1), the "What Other People Say" singer showed off her weight loss in a pair of loose pants. She captioned the post, "I’m full of peace, serenity, joy, and love today," and shared what she didn't have to do to get there.

"I don't count calories anymore I don't over exercise anymore I don't restrict or purge And I especially I don't live my life accordingly to the diet culture.. and I've actually lost weight," Lovato wrote. "This is a different experience But I feel full Not of food But of divine wisdom and cosmic guidance Peace Serenity Joy And love."

The 28-year-old artist, who has long struggled with an eating disorder, also shared an illustration on her Instagram Story of a budding flower that evolves into a woman's body with the message, "and i said to my body. softly. 'i want to be your friend.' it took a long breath. and replied, 'i have been waiting my whole life for this.'"

Lovato -- whose documentary Dancing With the Devil is set to premiere at SXSW later this month -- thanked her body underneath the post "for your patience and faith with me." Last summer, she painted her body with gold glitter that traced her stretch marks for another positive message about her personal journey toward recovery, which she claimed she didn't really believe in until she was living proof of it.

"I used to genuinely believe recovery from an eating disorder wasn’t real.... I’m so grateful that I can honestly say for the first time in my life - my dietitian looked at me and said 'This is what eating disorder recovery looks like,'" the "Confident" artist wrote back in December. "In honor of my gratitude for the place I’m in today, this was a lil shoot I did by myself in quarantine this summer when I wanted to celebrate my stretch marks instead of being ashamed of them. I started wearing actual glitter paint on my stretch marks to celebrate my body and all of its features (whether society views them as good OR bad)."
