St. Vincent, Death Cab for Cutie, Phantogram Managers Team Up for New Company, Brilliant Corners

Indie rock management companies Zeitgeist Artist Management, Lever and Beam and Barsuk Artist Management have teamed up to launch a new company called Brilliant Corners Artist Management, which includes St. VincentDeath Cab for CutiePhantogramSleater-KinneyBob MouldBest Coast and more on its roster.

The new venture was headed by managers Jordan Kurland and Joe Goldbergof Zeitgeist, David "Boche Billions" Viecelli and Alex Kadvan of Lever and Beam and Josh Rosenfeld of Barsuk. Brilliant Corners currently holds offices in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Seattle.

"For a long time, Joe and I were evaluating how best to expand Zeitgeist in the midst of the rapidly changing music industry," said Kurland in a statement. "We kept coming back to the concept of building a new company, one that would allow us to provide more services for our clients without sacrificing the fabric of what has made Zeitgeist unique. Thankfully, Boche, Alex and Josh, all managers whom we hold in high esteem and with whom we share similar philosophies, had been thinking along the same lines."

Effective immediately, each of the principals' existing management firms will commence joint operations as Brilliant Corners. As well, the company features marketing and touring departments bolstered by the principals' additional experience in the industry: Viecelli is the founder of leading independent agency The Billions Corporation, Rosenfeld is the co-founder of Barsuk Records and Kurland is the co-founder and co-promoter of San Francisco's Treasure Island Music and Noise Pop festivals. Brilliant Corners plans to further expand its capabilities in time.

"Alex and I found our focused and artist-centric approach reflected in our new partners' endeavors and, together with them, recognized the opportunity to build a unique and progressive management community," said Viecelli in a statement. "Our Brilliant Corners founding partners, along with our strong bicoastal team, are committed to honest and collaborative representation of artists via widely shared resources and experience. We also expect to provide a home for other passionate managers drawn to the support we can provide them in a culture that transcends that of most management companies."

Adds Rosenfeld: "Protecting the balance between art and commerce in all facets of an artist's career is one of the most important functions of a great management team, and Barsuk, Zeitgeist and Lever and Beam have always prioritized that for our clients. This new venture is the next step in providing extraordinary artists with holistic strategic and operational support for all their goals, and I couldn't be more excited about what the five principals and our combined staff will be able to achieve together."
