Janelle Monae, Lupita Nyongo & Angela Bassett Set for Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards

Black Panther stars Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett, singer and actress Janelle Monae, Get Out actor Milton “Lil Rel” Howery and Dear White Peoplefilmmaker Justin Simien are confirmed as presenters for the 2018 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards. Also confirmed as this year’s performers: contemporary R&B duo Chloe x Halle (grown-ish).

As previously announced, four breakout talents will be feted: Danai Gurira (Black Panther), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Tessa Thompson (Westworld, Annihilation) and Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe (Master of None, The Chi). Waithe will receive the Black Women in Hollywood Ford Vanguard Award.

Hosted by Insecure actress Yvonne Orji, the 11th annual awards ceremony will switch back to its traditional daytime luncheon format when it returns to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on March 1. And for the fourth consecutive year, the Oscar week celebration will air as a primetime special on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on March 3 (10 p.m. ET/PT).
