The legal battle between Crystal Castles leader Ethan Kath (born Claudio Palmieri) and his former bandmate, Alice Glass (born Margaret Osborn) appears to be over. Glass said on Wednesday (May 16) that a Los Angeles judge denied a motion from Kath's lawyers to vacate the dismissal from earlier this year of his defamation lawsuit against the singer, in addition to ruling that Glass is owed more than $20,000 in attorney fees and legal costs.
"The bullshit lawsuit by my former bandmate was once again denied in his appeal attempt today," she wrote. "No he owes us legal fees."
She followed up with a second tweet with an official statement from her lawyer, which read: "The court denied his request to vacate the judgment that dismissed his lawsuit. The judgment remains in our favor. The court also granted our request for attorney's fees and costs."
A spokesperson for Kath, who has denied the allegations, could not be reached for comment at press time. The lawsuit from Kath addressed claims Glass made in a lengthy blog post in October in which she claimed that Kath had sexually, physically and emotionally abused her during their time together in the band, allegations that Kath referred to as "pure fiction." A number of other women made similar allegations against Kath in a Daily Beast story.
A judge dismissed Kath's defamation suit in February after Glass's team filed a motion under California's anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) law, legislation designed to strike down lawsuits that could infringe on a defendant's free speech.
