Green Day Set To Launch The 2026 Super Bowl With Opening Performance
Green Day is set to open the 2026 Super Bowl with a special opening ceremony performance on Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
The East Bay group’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool will get this year’s Super Bowl celebrations underway with what the NFL described as “their most iconic rock anthems,” according to an announcement made Sunday Jan. 17. While the exact setlist will remain a surprise until the show airs, the trio has decades of material to draw from, stretching from the mid 90s to the present, starting with their breakout hit “Basket Case” from the landmark 1994 album Dookie.
The opening ceremony, which will honor 60 years of Super Bowl history and pay tribute to Super Bowl MVPs, will air live on Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. PT and 6 p.m. ET on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo, leading into the championship game.
“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement released by the NFL. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
“Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who’ve helped define this sport is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” said Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation. “As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”
Green Day’s appearance during the Super Bowl opening ceremony will take place ahead of the NFL’s previously announced pregame entertainment plans. Before kickoff, Charlie Puth is set to perform the national anthem, Brandi Carlile will deliver “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Bad Bunny will headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The Puerto Rican superstar and Apple Music recently shared a teaser trailer promising that “the world will dance.” His album Debi Tirar Mas Fotos topped the Billboard 200 for four weeks last year, and his ongoing world tour in support of the release is already shattering records, bringing in $107 million from 697,000 tickets sold across just the first 12 dates of the eight month run.
