Liam Gallagher has raced to the top of the U.K. album chart with his first solo release, As You Were (Warner Bros./Warner Music). “Rockstar” (Republic/Universal) by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage starts a second week at the singles summit.
Gallagher scored impressive first-week combined units of 103,000, according to the Official Charts Company, 91 percent of which were physical purchases or downloads. As You Were outsold the rest of this week's top 10 albums combined. Its tally included 16,000 copies on vinyl, the biggest one-week total in the U.K. for more than 20 years.
The new album chart also contains a career-best new entry at No. 2 for London-born rapper Giggs with Wamp 2 Dem (No BS), with Ed Sheeran's ÷(Asylum/Warner) back up 4-3. The Killers' Wonderful Wonderful (EMI/Universal), which debuted two weeks ago at No. 1, bounces back 7-4, as does another former chart-topper, Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold (Columbia/Sony), 6-5.
Long-running Norwegian chart favorites A-ha debut at No. 6 with their seventh U.K. top ten album, MTV Unplugged: Summer Solstice (UMC/Universal). Marilyn Manson's Heaven Upside Down (Caroline/Universal) starts at No. 7, with the fifth album by British rockers The Darkness, Pinewood Smile (Cooking Vinyl) at No. 8.
Singer-songwriter J.P. Cooper's debut set Raised Under Grey Skies(Island/Universal) is new at No. 9 and TV personality, comedian and vocalist Jason Manford at No. 10 with A Different Stage (Decca/Universal) at No. 10.
Post Malone's single wards off competition for the singles crown from “Havana” (Epic/Syco/Sony) by Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug, which moves up again 3-2. Sam Smith's “Too Good At Goodbyes” (Capitol/Universal) is down 2-3, as its fellow former No. 1, Dua Lipa's “New Rules” (Warner Bros./Warner Music), holds at No. 4, its tenth week in the top five.
Avicii and Rita Ora's “Lonely Together” (Positiva) is also a non-mover, at No. 5, with “Mi Gente” (Blue Wrasse) by J. Balvin and Willy William back up 14-8, helped by a new remix featuring Beyonce. It peaked at No. 5 last month. “Hurtin' Me” (PolydorUniversal) by U.K. rapper Stefflon Don featuring French Montana, is up 11-9.
