Real Estate Ex-Guitarist Matt Mondaniles Sexual Misconduct Allegations Detailed by Victims

On Friday news surfaced that indie rock band Real Estate's co-founding guitarist Matt Mondanile had left the band last year over allegations of sexual misconduct. Now, Spin has published an article detailing seven accounts by women, accusing Mondanile of predatory behavior.

In the article, women recall scenarios where Mondanile typically used his position in a band to touch, kiss and grope them without their consent. Some of them were fans, others were fellow musicians. Two women alleged he touched them inappropriately them while they were sleeping and another said he did so while she was trying to sleep.

The oldest allegation against Mondanile dates back to 2005, when he was a student at Hampshire College and a fellow student named Elizabeth said he at least twice snuck into her dorm room, got into her bed and groped her while she slept.

"He would say, 'I just took a Viagra, I can't help myself,'" she said. "He basically molested me in my sleep. My way of eventually dealing with that was to lock my door."

Mondanile -- who last month released his sixth album under his solo project Ducktails -- did not respond to Spin's multiple attempts to contact him for comment.

After one of the Spin's stories sources tweeted publicly about him last week, Spin's latest article states he sent her multiple messages pleading and acknowledging he had acted inappropriately with women in the past. "I just don't know how to say this other than I'm not so old and I have so much life to live," he said in one message, Spin reports. "I've learned from my mistakes and been very good for a long time."
