BBC radio station 5 Live went off the air briefly Wednesday after staffers at one of the broadcaster's buildings in Manchester were evacuated.
The announcement of the evacuation, which was made during the live broadcast and saw the station revert to prerecorded audio, came at a time of high alert in the U.K. after the deadly bomb attacks in Manchester on Monday night. On Tuesday, Manchester's central shopping district, the Arndale Center, was evacuated.
"My work building is now being evacuated! Stay safe," tweeted BBC radio presenter Natalie-Eve Williams, while a video circulated on the social media platform showing people congregating outside.
After being off-air for around 10 minutes, co-host on the Afternoon Edition radio show Sarah Brett told listeners: "Thank you for bearing with us. It was a fire alarm in case you're just joining us and everybody evacuated the building here at Media City," adding, "There is no incident. Everybody is OK and we're back on air."
MediaCityUK, which owns the Manchester site where the BBC has much of its operations, later tweeted: "There has been a fire evacuation at Quay House where BBC 5 Live is based. False alarm, everyone is now back inside safely, business as usual."
Twenty-two people were killed and 59 injured after the attack at the Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena Monday.
