When Corey Tut was dealing with a "dry spell" in his sex life, he felt like he needed someone to come save him from it. Then, after seeing a photo of Henry Cavill's Superman, he suddenly had an idea for a song.
Thus, Tut's new song "Hey There, Superman" was born, an anthem of sexual empowerment, where the singer reaches out to those around him looking for the hookup that he so desperately needs. It certainly helps that the track is one of many he wrote for Gerald McCullouch latest documentary All Male, All Nude: Johnsons, which explores the lives of male strippers at a gay nightclub in Florida.
Now, Tut is visualizing the track for the first time with his new music video, directed by McCullouch, which shows Tut strutting around a dark-lit night club, flirting with the various dancers as the approach him. Plus, he tells Billboard, he was able to shoot on location with McCullouch at the strip club featured in the director's documentary. "It was great that we got to shoot the video in the club with the boys who were wearing the superman underwear in the movie, so it all tied in well together."
Tut has long had a career in music -- for many years, the singer has been a vital part of New York City's dance club scene, working with artists like the Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock, along with fronting multiple bands and solo stints. Today, though, the star notes that being a creative in NYC has become much harder due to the city's constantly rising price of living. "It is not nearly as hospitable to artists as it once was, and there are much fewer live music venues than they used to be," he says, noting that Brooklyn still features the spirit of the queer nightlife scene that he came up in.
As for his future plans, Tut says he's taking a step away from his usual electronic sound, which he describes as an "after-the-club vibe." For his upcoming next album, the singer says he wants to experiment with guitars, synths and more "organic" sounds. "Its going to be a good late night come-down/ get busy record," he says.
