BTS Permission to Dance Rules Japan Hot 100

BTS’ “Permission to Dance” rises to No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, dated July 19 to 25, taking the top spot after two weeks at No. 2 on the tally.

While the global group’s latest single is slowing down, overall-figure-wise, it still outranks its competitors in various metrics: No. 2 for downloads (from 27,671 to 17,390 units), and No. 1 for streaming (from 19,965,634 to 15,588,691 streams) and video (from 7,718,062 to 5,256,994 views). The track also ruled radio airplay this week and collected enough points to keep Kinki Kids’ “Un/Pair” from debuting at the top of the Japan Hot 100.

Meanwhile, BTS’ “Butter” holds at No. 3, coming in at No. 10 for downloads (from 10,106 to 8,617 units), and No. 2 for streaming (from 14,469,653 to 13,437,322 streams) and video (from 5,297,225 to 4,359,295 views). While both songs by the South Korean septet continue to maintain a high level of performance, the figures are on the downswing and this year’s BTS craze that began in late May looks to be gradually settling down.

Veteran Johnny’s duo Kinki Kids’ “Un/Pair” bows at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100, barely outranking “Butter” by a mere 10 points. The pair’s 43rd single sold 173,387 copies to rule physical sales this week, and also fared well in look-ups (No. 2), radio (No. 12) and Twitter mentions (No. 15). But having no points at all in downloads, streaming and video was a huge setback, and the track was unable to overturn the difference of 3,041 points between itself and “Permission to Dance.”

millennium parade × Belle (Kaho Nakamura)’s “U” -- the theme of Mamoru Hosoda’s latest anime movie Belle -- rules downloads for the second week with 30,079 units, up from last week’s 27,996. The track rises 9-4 on the Japan Hot 100 after debuting last week, soaring 40-10 for streaming (from 2,955,472 to 6,182,599 streams) and 36-3 for video (from 570,381 to 2,384,792 views).

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, audio streams, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups and karaoke data.
