Social media has become a major point of connection between artists and their fans. Because of that, it is becoming more and more important for musicians to take care of and grow their media platforms. One of the biggest ways to do this is to attain the coveted blue checkmark on Instagram. Achieving this not only verifies who you are but also your notoriety as a public figure. That is why we are going to tell you how to get verified on Instagram.
Understanding the Guidelines
Instagram does not provide a checkable list of requirements for those on the quest for verification, but it does provide five general guidelines to help you get started. These are the official requirements to get verified on Instagram.
Make it Authentic
This one is easy. Just make sure that you as a musician or band actually exist, and you’re already part of the way to an Instagram verification.
Make it Public
Another easy step is to make sure that your account is public and your content is accessible to everyone. If you don’t know whether or not your account is public, simply go to “Settings”, then “Privacy” and make sure the “Private Account” setting is switched off. This could also be a good time to turn your account to a business account if you haven’t already. Just go to “Account” under “Settings”, scroll to the bottom, and “Switch Your Account Type” to business. This will give you more access to insights, which we will discuss later.
Make Sure it’s Complete
Another self explanatory one, make sure you have filled out the entire profile. It is important to have a profile photo, complete bio, posts and everything else that shows you’re interested in being on Instagram.
Make it Unique
This one sounds like the hard part, but it really isn’t. What it means to have unique content is just that you are not reposting things from other people’s pages. This means no screenshots from other platforms and no reposts from other people. It also means that you have to be active on Instagram and engage with both the app and your followers on it.
Be a Notable entity
This would be the hardest of the guidelines for Instagram verification. The main reason for the little blue check is to tell your fans that you are the real deal and that wouldn’t be important if you weren’t already well known enough for people to create false or fan profiles of you. Being notable means that you have built up and are continuing to grow a following, are relatively easy to find online, and are doing something worth paying attention to. We already know your music fills one of those boxes, but putting in effort (and a little money) to boost your posts and make yourself easier to find online can really go a long way in pushing you to be a more notable artist and worthy of getting verified on Instagram.
Applying for Instagram Verification
Once you’ve done all of these things, the next step is the actual application process. You can request verification from Instagram by going into “Settings”, “Account” and then finding the “Request Verification” tab. Open it up and fill it out as honestly as possible. Also remember to fill out as much information as you can. Don’t leave any of the optional fields blank. There are only a few questions and you can fill out the application in about 10 minutes if you have all of your paperwork and important links ready. Be sure to use links to your most notable content and press. Once you are done, all that’s left to do is press send and hope for the best. You should have an answer within 30 days.
