BTS rules Billboard’s Social 50 chart for an 87th nonconsecutive week, ruling the ranking dated Aug. 18, as the K-pop boy band revealed its comeback trailer and announced its first-ever stadium tour date in the U.S.
The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and engagement. The chart’s latest tracking week ended Aug. 9.
On its social media channels, BTS tweeted the trailer for Love Yourself: Answer, the follow-up to Love Yourself: Tear (released May 18), on Aug. 9. The four-minute video not only helped the group to gain 174,000 new YouTube subscribers – it also led BTS to 15.4 million Twitter mentions and 8.6 million Twitter reactions in the Aug. 3-9 tracking week, according to Next Big Sound.
Additionally, BTS announced a tour date at New York's Citi Field on Oct. 6, making it the first K-pop act to headline a stadium in the U.S. The group additionally retweeted Halsey, who posted on Aug. 7 on Twitter that she was “HELLA proud” of BTS’ recently announced three-show stretch at Staples Center in Los Angeles, a tweet that helped her to re-enter at No. 11 on the Social 50 thanks to 366,000 total Twitter reactions, up 797 percent.
