Anuel AA will kick-off his first U.S. tour with a date in New York City in November, Billboard has learned. Tour details are to be announced soon, with tickets expected to go on sale in October.
The Puerto Rican trap artist has signed a multi-million-dollar deal with promoters Artie Pabon from La Commission and Pedro Zamora, founder of Zamora Live, for the planned tour of 40 dates throughout the U.S at the end of the year and into 2019. The promoters call it “the most extensive and largest touring deal for a Latin trap act.”
Anuel's song “Bebe” debuted at no. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart last week and currently holds at no. 2. After building a strong viral following while incarcerated, he released his debut album “Real Hasta la Muerte” this past July, hours before being released from federal prison, where he served a 30-month sentence after police found guns and ammunition in the car he was riding in. The album has just gone platinum, and is currently no. 3 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart after peaking at no. 1.
The singer, whose given name is Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, previously told Billboard that his music is “what people see and live in the streets.”
Anuel’s debut concert in Puerto Rico, scheduled for October, was canceled last week after Anuel posted a diss track aimed at fellow Puerto Rican urban artist Cosculluela, which was called out on social media for its homophobic lyrics and disparaging remarks about a Puerto Rican TV host who has HIV.
The promoter for that show, Paco Lopez, said he canceled the concert because he did not “sympathize or support” Anuel’s views. “The people of Puerto Rico have had a very hard year,” he added. “Now more than ever it is necessary that we are united."
Anuel quickly apologized for the track via a video on Youtube, calling it “the worst mistake of my career.”
Commenting on the announced tour through the promoters, he said that fans should “expect the unexpected.”
