Tame Impala gave Saturday Night Live an early taste of festival season when they stopped by the show to perform their first batch of new material in four years on Saturday (March 30).
As is typical of any given performance of the Australian psych-rockers, they played awash in kaleidoscopic lights as they bobbed through the euphoric melodies of new tracks, "Patience" and "Borderline."
The singles are the first new Tame Impala tracks since their 2015 album Currents, and "Patience," which they dropped the week before they hit the SNL stage, serves as the first official page in the band's next chapter.
Between the two songs, Tame Impala spanned an emotional range: "Patience" hit a swath of sunny notes that'll surely light up their headlining set at Coachella and a number of other festival gigs this season, while "Borderline" struck a dramatic, introspective chord.
